FAQ

Questions merchants ask before integrating.

Don't see your question here? Ask us directly. We respond to every message.

How long does integration take?

Most merchants are live within one to two weeks. You submit declined transactions to us through a REST API. There's no change to your checkout flow, billing system, or payment processor required.

What recovery rate should we expect?

Results vary by portfolio. Merchants typically recover between 30% and 50% of previously failed transactions once the model is tuned to their data. We recommend starting with a trial on a subset of declines so you can see measured results before committing.

Do we need to switch payment processors?

No. Retain Capital works alongside your existing processor rather than replacing it. We currently support integrations with Chase Paymentech, CyberSource, Qualpay, and TSYS. We can discuss others during onboarding.

Is our payment data secure?

Yes. Retain Capital is PCI DSS Level 1 compliant: the highest level of certification in the payments industry, reserved for providers handling the largest volumes of card-based transactions. Transaction data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Every merchant's data is logically isolated by organization with role-based access controls. Our infrastructure runs on managed cloud services designed for handling sensitive payment data.

How does pricing work?

Pricing is tailored to your monthly recurring subscription volume and recovery potential. It looks different for every merchant. Our model is entirely performance based: we keep a percentage of the incremental revenue we recover for you, with no additional fees. If a retry attempt fails, you owe us nothing. Share a few details on our contact form and we'll walk you through what it looks like for your business.

What happens to a transaction that can't be recovered?

Not every decline is recoverable. Our models are built to recognize that. We avoid repeatedly resubmitting transactions that are unlikely to succeed. We always work to avoid triggering unnecessary system integrity fees. Every outcome (recovered or not) is visible in your reporting dashboard so you always know where a transaction stands.

Will resubmitting a declined card hurt our relationship with issuers?

Yes, if resubmissions are handled irresponsibly. That's exactly why we route and time resubmissions using BIN-level issuer intelligence to avoid it. The goal is fewer and better-timed attempts rather than repeated blind retries.

Do you support businesses outside the US?

Our current processor integrations are strongest in the US market. We also support billing customers globally in their local currency through your existing US-based merchant account. If you operate internationally and use locally acquired merchant accounts, tell us more on the contact form and we'll let you know what's possible for your footprint.
